Top 5 Engineering Marvels

How many times have it occurred to you that while visiting some new place, you become spell bound by a building? Making a building which is beautiful and efficient at the same is a tough task. That’s why I think that being an architect is one of the toughest jobs and bringing that plan into reality is a more difficult job.

If we’ve to count, the numbers of such buildings are enormous, all thanks to human creativity and advancement in technology. Therefore, in order to show you some class buildings which have been a big challenge to make, here are my 5 Engineering Marvels.


1. The Taj Mahal – The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Construction started in 1632 and was completed around 1653, and thus taking around 21 years. It attracts from 2 to 4 million visitors per year!

2. The Petronas Twin Towers – The Petronas Twin Towers are the world’s largest twin buildings and were the world’s tallest buildings before being surpassed by Taipei 101. It was designed by Argentine-American architect César Pelli and was completed in 1998. It is located Kuala Lumpur.

3. Taipei 101 – Taipei 101 is a landmark skyscraper located in Xinyi District, Taipei. It currently holds the record of the world’s tallest building. It contains 101 floors above ground and 5 floors underground. It has been hailed as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World by NewsWeek and was designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners.

4. Leaning Tower of Pisa – The Leaning Tower of Pisa is freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa. The height of the tower is 55.86 m (183.27 ft) from the ground on the lowest side and 56.70 m (186.02 ft) on the highest side. It was intendeded to stand vertically but the tower began leaning to the southeast soon after the onset of construction in 1173 due to a poorly laid foundation and loose substrate that has allowed the foundation to shift direction.

5. Lotus Temple – Lotus Temple is a Bahá’í House of Worship and also a prominent attraction in Delhi. It was completed in 1986 and serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent. It was designed by Fariborz Sahba. It is one of the most visited places in the world.
